Detour Culver City

Detour joins the expanding restaurant and bar scene on Washington Boulevard, west of downtown Culver City. The open-air patio and happy hour menu lends itself to a great after-work stop.

There's a nice little restaurant row developing on Washington Boulevard, the part of Culver City that doesn't have parking garages, but may need to soon due to all of the recent activity. I've discussed Gravlax, Fin, A Frame, Maple Block Meat Co, and Hatchet Hall, all neighboring restaurants in this new food area of Los Angeles. Now there's yet another restaurant to add to the mix, Detour.

Detour is a casual, neighborhood spot, much like the other's on this list, though Hatchet Hall and Maple Block might merit a drive cross town if you were in the mood. Detour has open windows that roll out onto a sidewalk patio and the openness pretty much demands that you stop in for a happy hour drink on a warm summer day, or most days in LA.

The happy hour runs 3-7pm daily, and until 11pm on Monday's, when happiness can be a little more elusive.

There are discounted small plates like plump shrimp tacos grilled with cabbage and cilantro. There are yam and brie flatbreads, and also fresh alaskan crab cakes with house made aioli.

You can also get your veggie fix one of the rotating vegetables like cauliflower and everyone's friend the brussels sprout.

In the more substantial plates, there's lamb lollipops, sadly, not on happy hour, but worth a few dollars more as they come warm with chimichurri and a sweet chili dipping sauce. And you also get to eat with your hands and no one will judge you.

There's also other proteins like seared sea scallops and pork belly, or go veg with sautéed mushrooms over creamy polenta.

Add Detour to the list of growing restaurants and decent happy hours on Washington Boulevard in Culver City. It's a nice open-air spot to take in a beautiful day or weekend.
