My mom loved sparkling wine. Anything with bubbles in it made her happy, and when I was finally old enough for a glass, it made me equally happy.
We'd start a lot of meals with a tall glass of tiny bubbles. It didn't matter the occasion or the day of the week. Tuesday seemed like a day good as any other to pop a bottle. No special event necessary. With mother's day recently passing, I thought today was a perfect day to toast my mom with a Prosecco cocktail of a grapefruit lime mimosa.
I'm not sure why orange juice has been hogging the Mimosa limelight for so long. Wikipedia says:
Well I'm specifying that it's time to mix our citrus' up. That's how I came to this grapefruit lime mimosa. I even through in a little lime for added punch.
Now let's talk about Prosecco. I grew to love Prosecco while living in Paris. It's such an easy sipper, and again, no special occasion necessary to start, or end an evening with this lovely libation.
If you're going on a date and need a good first drink to order, Prosecco will make you look sophisticated, yet fun and knowledgeable.
Mionetto Prosecco has been producing quality sparkling wines since 1887. The grapes are from Northern Italy in an area called, wait for it, Prosecco. This is actually a big deal. Just like only grapes made into sparkling wine from the Champagne region in France can be called champagne, only grapes from the Prosecco area can be called Prosecco. Grapes from anywhere else are called "Sparkling Glera" after the glera grape from which Prosecco is made. So Mionetto is producing a range of wines they can call Prosecco since their grapes come from this designated North Eastern Italian wine region.
Another bonus is that Mionetto Prosecco has a nice low alcohol content of around 11%, making it a great drink for spring or summer entertaining. Pop some bubbly when guests arrive and your party is already off to a great start.
Grapefruit Lime Mimosa
- Mionetto Prosecco
- 1/2 cup of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
- How much you use of each has a lot to say with how you want your day to go. As a general rule of thumb, it's nice to use equal parts Prosecco and grapefruit juice with a splash of lime. Start by pouring the citrus in a tall champagne flute first, and then top with Prosecco and finish with a touch of lime. Adjust to your taste. You can use a vegetable peeler or paring knife to cut a thin strip of grapefruit zest to garnish each drink and enjoy.
